4 intensive days of KDE… somehow I still feel exhausted, but looking back at the work we achieved, it definitely was worth it.
Saturday and Sunday we started off with the KDE 4 Marketing Meeting, discussing very basic things like the image of KDE, target groups, etc, etc. We had really fruitful discussions and it surely helped to sort ideas. I am not sure we really revolutionary ideas, but we have a much clearer vision on how to move on now.
Same for the KDE e.V. board meeting Monday and Tuesday. A very packed agenda with topics such as akademy, internal organistation of KDE e.V., budgets, etc. Kenny Duffus, our hero to organize akademy 2007 was there and we synced some details, which is difficult while sitting in two different countries instead of one table. As for the budgets, we can say that core business of e.V. is pretty save due to a steady base of donations. Meaning, we are indeed able to work on extras, such as more developer meetings. In order to ease organisation of such, a hired managing director will make a lot of sense, leaving more developer time for actual development
With the help of the new sponsoring memberships and hopefully also more donations, we will be able to actually set this up. So - in case you know a company who uses KDE and might be interested in helping us improving KDE - esp. for the lift-off of KDE 4, please make them get in touch with the board.
In the light of so many steps forward, I’d like to thank everybody who travelled to Darmstadt and contributing to successful meetings. Also I’d like to thank those, who made the meeting possible with their contributions (KDE e.V.,TIZ Darmstadt, modulebox, basysKom)
Stay tuned!
